And thank you for visiting my site! I’m Erkka, an internationally awarded miniature artist and a pedagogically trained teacher from Finland.

As an artist I pride myself in my versatility, as I enjoy working with a variety of scales and subjects, ranging from small 32 mm heroic scale figures to larger 1:8 busts and the like, all the way from fantasy to historicals.

Like many of us, I like stories. Telling them through my works is what best gets me invested in a project. A lot of the inspiration behind my work comes from humanity, emotions, nature, fairy tales, mythology and popular culture, and these themes tend to often be present in a lot of my pieces.

Teaching

I’m a trained teacher with a Masters degree in Education and nearly ten years of teaching experience. Bringing this pedagogical knowledge into the miniatures world comes to me naturally when for example giving feedback and teaching workshops. Feel free to be in touch about organizing a workshop near you. Currently I have three prepared curricula for two day weekend workshops, but I am happy to explore options outside of these as well:

  • Composition & Diorama: A course focused on composition and diorama building.

  • Colour & Light in Dioramas: A follow-up course to the Composition course focused on diorama painting.

  • Display Painting Fundamentals: A course focused on learning and practising some of the most fundamental skills for display painting and my approach to painting.

  • Cold North Open, Ropecon Miniature Painting Competition: I’ve been a part of the team behind organizing and judging Finland’s biggest figure-focused painting competition since 2022.

  • Cold Tones Society: Founding member of Cold Tones Society, a community for display painters in Finland with the purpose of developing the local painting scene through community efforts and events.
